Easy Does It

In owning an insurance agency for over thirty one years I learned the most important rule in business. Make it easy for people to give you money. I sold something people were required to have, either by the state and/or their mortgage company. It wasn’t a question of if they would buy it, just who they would buy it from. Once it became easier to buy it online, it was time for me to retire.

I still deal with people, just not about insurance. Sometimes I’d like for them to do something for me. The first thing that pops in my mind is, make it easy for them. Getting them the information they need is a good start, but the most important thing is to be likeable. It’s much easier for someone to do something for me if they like me. The best way for someone to like me is to like them first. I always approach them with a smile, even on the phone. Then I ask them how they are, to let them know it’s not all about me.

These are simple things. Goodwill is incredibly valuable, so I do my best to cultivate it whenever possible. It makes life easier in many ways. Nothing more complicated than perception.

May you have enough today, one moment at a time.

  2. Hi Tom,

My “mantra,” as a salesman was always “make it easy to say ‘yes.'” Thanks for reminding me because we still have something to “sell,” and I still hope for some “yeses.”

    God Bless Us All-Every One!
