In my last post I discussed what I know and don’t know. Magic Words Deepest knowing is my personal experience in the present moment. To know more things deeply I experiment. True research is about trying things to see what happens, not reading other people’s ideas. Here’s an example.
I love cheese and chocolate. Years ago I came up with the idea that combining those two things must produce a wonderful taste. I talked about it often at the supper table. My wife was kind enough to find some chocolate cheese and bought it. I gave it a try and it was awful. By tasting it, I know I don’t like the taste of chocolate cheese.
When our girls were little they often didn’t want to try new foods. I would tell them, give it a try, your tongue won’t fall off. I really didn’t like the taste of chocolate cheese, but I still have my tongue. I also got what I wanted, to know deeply about the taste of chocolate cheese.
I’ve gotten better at trying things. All experiments are successful, if I learn from them. It might not be the outcome I wanted or expected, and that’s okay. My value as a person has absolutely nothing to do with the outcome of the experiment. I’m still enough. My purpose is to gain knowledge and insight, not increase my worth because I’m right.
This approach led me to wonderful blessings like meditation and coaching. Coaching ran its course and I moved on to mentoring. I don’t know what the future holds and that’s fine. What I know today is enough for now. I’ll try other things when the time is right to know more at the deepest level. Nothing more complicated than perception.
May you have enough today, one moment at a time.
Hi Tom,
This post triggered a memory of my childhood. It’s about the powdered drink by the name of Ovaltine. Have I told you my Ovaltine story?
