The Golden Rule

We all know the golden rule, “In everything do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the law and the prophets.” Matthew 7:12.  I am responsible for my actions by treating others the way I like to be treated. Taking that one step further, I do my  best to see things from the other person’s point of view. They may want to be treated differently that I would. I talk about this in my post Bird Brain

To me, what Jesus doesn’t say also helps make the rule truly golden. He does not say that I am responsible for the happiness of others. That lies in their minds. Stoic philosophy emphasizes focusing on things over which I have control. I have control of my actions, being kind, and how I think. I do not have control over the reactions of others. I do the best I can with the information I have in the present moment. I think that’s what Jesus was talking about.  Nothing more complicated than perception.

May you have enough today, one moment at a time.
