Bunches

I had been an insurance agent for about a year when I noticed something. Things associated with my business seemed to come in bunches. Being a new agent I had policy goals to reach. I would get concerned if I hadn’t written any new business in a while. Then suddenly I would write many policies in a short period of time. As my number of policies grew I noticed that claims seemed to come in bunches also.

I observed this phenomenon in the physical universe too. Physical matter clumps. We call space, space because atoms are spread far apart, in most of the universe. But then there are planets and all the things on them, besides moons, stars, and galaxies. Even galaxies are mostly in clusters.

I don’t really know if things in my life come in bunches. It seems like they do and that’s what’s important. When there is a drought of good things in my life or a bunch of bad things it’s important to remember that things are going to change. This is not necessarily a pattern that will continue and my perception is my reality. Another person’s reality will be different.

Today I read a quote from Marcus Aurelius in The Daily Stoic. He said “The universe is change. Life is opinion.” Who am I to argue with one of the wisest emperors of Rome.
