A Different Angle

It seems the older I get the more I misplace things. I spend more time looking for things like my phone, glasses, and keys. Of course I first look for them in the usual spots. I’ve noticed something interesting. If that doesn’t work my first inclination is to try them again. That’s because it takes extra effort to examine less common places. I have to put  more thought and effort into considering other possibilities. However, it makes no sense at all to look where I’ve already tried.

Another strategy that often works is to look in common places, but at a different angle. That usually means getting down on my hands and knees. Getting back up is not as easy as it once was, so again it’s more effort. A while back I used my credit card at a drive through window. Later I was going to get it from my wallet, but it wasn’t there.  I looked in my car with no luck. I tried a few other places and decided it had to be in the car somewhere. I bent over to look under the seat and it had dropped down and lodged right next to the center console. I could only see it by looking from a new angle.

I’ve found these examples to be helpful in expanding my horizons. If I want to find something new it doesn’t make sense to look in the same old places or at least not from the same angle. That’s harder, but changing my perspective helps me discover different possibilities. I’ve found it’s worth it.

May you have enough today, one moment at a time.
